2008年より継続している、世界の屋根付き半屋外空間に関するリサーチをまとめた書籍。
ロッジアをはじめとする屋根のついた半屋外空間（以下、ロッジア空間と呼ぶ）は、世界各地の気候条件や文化のなかで様々に展開してきました。これらロッジア空間には、仕事や趣味など日常的な生活の営み、地域の人々との社会的な活動、光・影・風といった自然要素の変化など、暮らしを循環させる様々な事物が鮮やかな状態で集められています。言い換えると、人々はこうしたロッジア空間を介して、地域の文化や気候の中で如何にそれらと関わり、暮らしを構築するか、という術（スキル）を身につけているともいえます。また、これらロッジア空間で佇み、活動する人々には、現代に見失われつつある「暇」な時間の創出や「集い」によって共同するといった、暮らしの愉しみが現れています。こうした価値に光を当て、具体的な事例を表現することで、この先の建築論の礎を確立したいと願う書籍です。

長期に渡った調査において世界19カ国74都市を対象に527のロッジア空間を採取し、本書では、その中から厳選した46事例の実測調査に基づく断面パースペクティブのドローイングと、その街のもつ文化的背景やロッジア空間の使われ方などを記述しています。

A book compiling research on the world's roofed semi-outdoor spaces, ongoing since 2008. Roofed semi-outdoor spaces, including loggias (hereafter referred to as loggia spaces), have developed in diverse ways across the world's climatic conditions and cultures. These loggia spaces vividly gather diverse elements that circulate daily life: everyday activities like work and hobbies, social interactions with local people, and the changing natural elements of light, shadow, and wind. Moreover, the people who linger and engage in activities within these loggia spaces embody the joys of living that are increasingly lost in modern times: the creation of “leisurely” time and the shared experience of “gathering”. This book aims to shed light on these values and establish a foundation for future architectural discourse by presenting concrete examples.

The long-term research involved surveying 527 loggia spaces across 74 cities in 19 countries worldwide. This volume presents 46 carefully selected cases from this body of work. Each entry features measured sectional perspective drawings alongside descriptions of the cultural context of the city and the ways in which the loggia space is utilised.
