1950年代に開発された東京郊外の住宅地における戸建住宅。周辺の敷地細分化が進むなか開発当時の面積を保つ計画地では、以前の配置を踏襲して平屋から二階建てとすることで、庭を拡張する建ち方が可能となった。敷地を二分した南に庭、北に建物を配し、双方をロッジアと呼ぶ屋根付半屋外空間で繋いだ。敷地中央に位置するロッジアは最も大きな気積の室でありながら、特別な機能をもたない。ロッジアの庭側境界は、方杖を兼ねた垂れ壁と腰壁が高さ3.5×幅7mほどのガラスのない巨大なアーチ窓を形成し、草花の香り、鳥や動物、光や影など絶えず変化する外部の環境を取り込む。室内側の一階には小上がりになった畳の間を中心にリビング・キッチン・水回りが連なり、二階には勾配天井をもつ室が寝台・長ベンチ・バルコニーといった身体スケールの居場所とともに配されることで、ロッジアにはすべての室が設えの異なる窓を伴って一堂に会し、立体的な人のふるまいが集められている。 この住宅では、ロッジアという空間を通して、街や樹木、太陽の秩序のもつ躍動的なふるまいと人間の生活から溢れる細やかなふるまいを均衡させ、心地よい緊張感を生んでいるのである。

A new detached house built in a residential area of Tokyo originally developed in the 1950s. While neighboring sites have been subdivided, this project site kept the original property size. This made possible the client’s request to have an extensive garden. The site was developed in two parts, the South part is a garden of trees, flowers and vegetables, and the North part is the house. They are tied with a roofed semi-open space called a loggia.  　The garden side of the loggia has a large window without glass. The interior of the house is connected to the loggia with various windows. The habitant’s behavior is influenced by the fresh green environment, the sun and shadows, birds and animals, and the gathering of neighbors. In other words, the loggia ties life through the property beyond the site’s borders using nature and the neighboring environment.
